The Shiba Inu Fanciers of Northern Calif. was formed in April of 1998, with 29 charter members. It has since grown over the years to a record 82 members. The club holds monthly meetings, and all members are encouraged to attend.
The SFNC has sponsored and participated in many different activities. This includes hosting the Annual Shiba Picnics for the last 5 years (this year we had 112 Shibas and their owners attend!), having a booth at the annual Family Pet Expo (to provide public education about Shibas and responsible dog ownership in general) for the last 4 years, an educational booth at the Cupertino Cherry Blossom Festival for the last 3 years, and have provided public education at the Cow Palace benched show for the last 4 years.
The SFNC has its own website (http://www.sfnc.org), and within it is information relating to the club and activities, as well as a listing of all breeders within the club. We also have a Breeder Referral and Information contact to answer any inquiries regarding the breed.
We also have our own Rescue Program within the SFNC club, and work hard to see that all Shibas are removed from our local shelters and placed in loving homes when the need arises.
We have also been working to become an AKC-licensed club. To this end, we have held a "fun match", as well as 3 different Sanctioned AKC "B" matches. We are currently planning our first Sanctioned AKC "A" match. We are a NSCA member club and an AKC sanctioned club.
The purpose of the Shiba Inu Fanciers of Northern California is to protect and advance the interests of the registered Shiba Inu. Our Code of Ethics is designed to establish a standard of conduct to be followed by all members of the Shiba Inu Fanciers of Northern California (aka SFNC), in order to promote the highest ideals among Shiba Inu owners and breeders, and aim for the continuous improvement of the breed within the framework of The National Shiba Club of America and The American Kennel Club approved breed standard.
